Emily Shapiro uses the highest quality of recycled metals, natural gemstones and ethical metalsmithing practices in their studio. All metals used are recycled and sourced from United Precious Refining. All their jewelry is nickel-free. Her work is heavily inspired by natural elements and heabily driven by experimentation and process. She incorporates natural, rough gemstones celebarating beauty in imperfections. Emilie uses the ancient craft of lost wax casting which dates back to the Egyptians, wherein she carves sculptural pieces into hard wax and casts them into metal. For a primitive yet modern feel, Emilie casts gemstones in place so they are embedded in the metal to represent a marriage of materials to create her unique signature style.
Emilie grew up by the Atlantic Ocean, drawing inspiration from the water and a family history of creative entrepreneurs. Emilie makes every piece by hand in her New York City studio, using local resources whenever possible. She holds a B.F.A. in Art + Design with a focus on jewelry from Syracuse University and studied in Florence, Italy. Alongside creating jewelry, Emilie teaches workshops and has authored books on jewelry design.
